Have you had enough of going on the same places like Boracay, Palawan, etc.? If you do, this place is a perfect vacation spot for the whole family. I present to you my beautiful province, Quezon! But before anything else, let’s have a trip down memory lane with its historical story.
Originally, what now forms quezon was divided among the provinces of Batangas, Laguna, and Nueva Ecija. The European explorer Juan de Salcedo, was the first who explored the area. The province was created in 1591 and was called Kaliraya. Unforyunately, it was destroyed by a big fleet of moro pirates in 1604. The inhabitants was forced to transfer to Palsabangon, which is now called Pagbilao. One of the greatest event in the history of Quezon was the Confradia Revolt, which happened in 1841. It was led by a Lucbano named Apolinario de la Cruz, which happens to be the most famous Hermano Pule. When the americans came in the Philippines, a civil government was established and Lucena was made the provincial capital. During the Japanese occupation, some of the general headquarters of the army and constabulary was situated there. After the war, on September 7, 1946, under the Republic Act No. 14, the province’s name was change from Tayabas to Quezon Province, in honor of the late Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon, who came from Baler. In 1979, Aurora was separated from Quezon as an independent province. It was named after the president’s wife, Aurora. Now enough for the history lesson. Let’s go now to the beautiful spots which can be found there!
Going to Quezon is just easy as pie. You will just take a ride on the bus. When you reach the province of quezon, some locals there will start riding in and you can purchase some of the most delicious delicacies that can only be found there like banana chips, meringue, buko pie, pinagong, oraro, and other treats that you will surely enjoy. If you are planning to stay overnight or weeklong, looking for a place to rest is also not a problem. There are many inns there that you can have for accommodation. One example is Villa Escudero that is located at Tiaong, Quezon.
It is a combination of a hotel, resort, and a plantation. It is a 800 hectares of working coconut plantation and hacienda. The plantation also opened as a resort in 1981 and it is also offering village tours, museum tour, food and accomodations.it has developed a worldwide reputation as a focal point to experience Philippine culture and history in a beautiful rural setting. You’ll just take the South Super Highway and then exit at 50(Lucena, Legaspi, Batangas exit.) Turn left to to. Tomas junction and then left again to Tanauan – Sto. Tomas junction. Head straight down by passing the town of Alaminos and San Pablo City proper. Slow down upon seeing Quezon arch and turn left immediately after. Use caution when turning left. Remember that the resort and museum hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Children below 7 are not allowed to enter the museum. And also, wear your proper swimming attire if you want to take a swim.
The next one is my favorite, Borawan Island which is located at the town of Padre Burgos in Quezon. You’re guessing why Borawan is the name of the island? Well, that’s the one thing I like in this beautiful paradise. This a combination of the white sands of Boracay and the big rock formations reminiscent to that of Palawan’s , that’s why it is called Borawan. Pretty darn thing right? There are cottages for rent and camping is allowed. Showe rooms and toilets are also available. But that’s not all! Boats from the Padre Burgos port can take you to the following islands: Dampalitan Island, Putting Buhangin, and Kuwebang Lampas in Pagbilao. It is such a paradise during my visit. Crowded, as it was summer when we were there, but still beautiful.
The next one is my town’s own spot. Mountain of faith in Macalelon, Quezon. It is a man-made mountain where you can see all the stations of the cross as you move your way up until the top. When you reach the top, you will see the beautiful scenery of Quezon right before your eyes. When you go there, you will have to go through the most infamous road, the zigzag road, or “isaw” as what the locals call it. We always pass there but I’m still having headaches when passing there. Its like you’re in a 5D ride and you move upright and downleft! Its very dizzy. According to the local folks, there are legends in this road that deep beside the road lives a giant snake like anaconda and one claimed that he saw the snake passing through the road down to the mountains!
The next is one of the famous spots of Quezon which is Kamay ni Hesus, in Lucban, Quezon. This is also a good Pilgrimge site for everyone who wants to repent, give thanks and pray for healing. Kamay ni Hesus is a 5-hectare shrine constructed way back in 2002. It is located in Brgy. Tinamnan, Lucban. There are many parts to see in the shrine. This includes Via Dolorosa Grotto, Healing Church, Noah’s Ark, Sea of Galilie, Holy Family park, and a Pastoral Center. All of these in one place. The quickest route I think from Metro Manila to Lucban, is reach Quezon via Antipolo, Rizal. It’s a good place to go during Holy Week. During our visit in 2014, the place is crowded but we managed to wait until we’ve reached the top.
Quezon is a beautiful province, with many places to see, and literally full of coconut trees! So, if you are planning to have a vacation with your whole family, just go to Quezon. And as the saying goes,”Walang tamad sa Quezon!”
